Incorporating safety into the design of everyday objects is often taken for granted when we use tools and household goods.

Safety can often be overlooked by companies setting up machines and workshops whether it be complex ion implanting equipment or a basic wood sawing tool

We can help review designs for safety during the installation and commissioning of process tools, power/cooling/gases/fuel/lasers/radioactive materials, rotating equipment, high pressure systems, hydraulics, gas fire detection, fencing, interlocks and guarding.

We can provide advice at the FEED study stage, provide initial Risk Assessments, Conduct Hazard Identification studies (HIRA / HAZOP / HAZID) Failure modes, effects and criticality analysis

We can advise on Local Exhaust Ventilation, dusts and extraction systems, clean rooms, toxic gas and chemical distribution systems;

We can design access systems, develop maintenance safety procedures and advise on ergonomic requirements

The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 apply to construction projects but can equally apply to upgrading, refurbishment and renovation projects which involve construction work.

We have experience in the application of these regulations. The incorporation of good safety knowledge and attention to Health and Safety controls in the design phase reduces injury and accidents in the manufacturing, construction / installation and operational phase of all projects.

We can provide advice to assist the client with their CDM duties for the duration of the project, Notify the HSE of the project details, Ensure that Health and Safety issues are addressed at before and throughout construction, Co-ordinate the Health and Safety aspects of the design, ensuring co-operation with others involved in the project, help produce a Risk Register, Identify and assist in the collation and dissemination of “Pre Construction” information to those who need it at the time they need it;

Provide clear communication between client, designers and contractors, Liaise with Principal Contractor (s) and designers regarding ongoing design matters and changes to designs;

Prepare Emergency plans and run exercises to test those plans, Audit manufacturing and construction activity;

Prepare and update the Health and Safety File for sign off.

In addition to the above, we want to help our clients develop a sustainable culture and embedded system to allow them to demonstrate compliance all through the project life cycle and to be able to show how risks are designed out and mitigated.

We can also provide training and workshops for designers, help assess the competence of contractors appointed to the project, commission reports and review contractor safety documentation.
